About Us

David and Ruth Norris had a mid life crisis in 1979, when they were in their mid twenties and moved from Melbourne to Central Victoria to grow quality grapes for the wines industry. They have been supplying super-premium fruit to the wine industry for many years now, firstly to Southcorp and later to wineries such as Blackjack, Hanging Rock Mandurang Valley & Witchmount.

In the difficult years of the early 2000’s David and Ruth decided that it was time to take a bit more control of their destiny by making some of their fruit in to wine instead of their whole crop being subject to the vagaries of the wine grape market. The release of their own label 2004 Shiraz and 2007 Chardonnay marks their first venture into wine production. A small quantity of selected fruit has been retained each year since then for making wine under the Faraday Ridge label. There will be future releases of Shiraz and Chardonnay. The wines are available through selected regional bottle shops and restaurants and by mail order or website.

Each wine is made by a small winemaker selected for the qualities they will bring to the wine, and each wine is carefully handcrafted to bring out the best in the fruit flavours of the quality fruit grown at Faraday Ridge.

David & Ruth have a commitment to environmental responsibility. They have reserved a significant portion of their 107 hectare property as remnant native forest and in 2003 established an agro forestry parcel of 20 hectares planted with 22,000 sugar gums and ironbarks on land previously cleared.

When David & Ruth are not running the vineyard and business they enjoy racing their 1971 MG Midget in MG Car Club events.
